From The Editor... r r... Bumper edition, this one folks! As the summer draws to an end, we are counting the few weekends when there WASN’T a classic car event. This issue contains reviews of: The Scottish Road Trip by Catherine Smith Le Mans Classic by Group Captain OCD SPA Summer Classics by Michael Bodingbauer Silverstone Classic by Bill Telford New for this issue, is the ‘takes me back...’ feature: Robin Richardson goes back to his ‘Mod’ roots with what he is convinced is a Vespa scooter! If you have another classic...please tell me about it. I have other material which I’m holding back for the Winter edition, lest I should have nothing to fill it with except Christmas Cracker jokes. Allan Tunstall and I would like to make a request for the kind of technical articles and tips people put into the early newsletters. The serialised full build story from Stuart is of course a magnificent contribution, and very much appreciated, and we want to actively canvass some new technical tips especially in the areas people have found they needed a solution and come up with one. Preferably, ones that haven’t been covered before.. Some items we believe would be of interest to Members: 1. How to properly install a radiator allowing for its expansion properties! (I know Gerry or Dudley from Talon have ways for this) 2. Is an expansion tank necessary – pros and cons. How to fit? 3. How to install a throttle linkage 4. Design and fit of a towing eye 5. etc I’m sure there are many others, can we have your creative input please? In addition to my new best friend, Gerry Hawkridge, I have renewed acquaintances this summer with other Cobra manufacturers, namely John Kerr of Crendon Replicas and Andy Burrows of Gardner Douglas. John found me at Silverstone and showed me the best bead-making tool ever for stopping hoses coming off your pipes (see article), while Andy took me for some hot laps in his GD70 demonstrator with a 500bhp motor! Awesome! As I write this the evenings are getting shorter and the temperatures are falling, however there are still some exciting events yet to come. For me it will be Le Mans Legends in Chelsea on the first September weekend, then Reims in the Van Diemen on the second, followed by Zolder in the HK with Nicky, Gerry and Ali on the third weekend. I hope you too are getting your money’s worth out of your Cobras and look forward to catching up with you on T289R Forum. Colin Newbold Editor [email protected] 2 THE 289 REGISTER
