J . F . Gregory Park ’ s 3.5-mile trail takes visitors through former rice fields with opportunities for exercising and bird watching . Head
over to the Fort McAllister Marina to book a fishing charter , eco tour or a trip down the river . Nearby , the Fort McAllister State Historic Park offers camping , geocaching , hiking , kayaking , fishing and canoeing . You won ’ t want to miss their museum and fort showcasing the Civil War battle site which marks the end of Sherman ’ s March to the Sea . Back in the 1930s , Henry Ford found the old fort and restored it .
Yep , that Henry Ford . The automobile industrialist and his wife Clara made Richmond Hill their home during the cold Michigan winters from 1925 – 1947 . During their time here , they set out to grow rubber plants and ended up growing an entire community . Stop by the Richmond Hill Visitors Center and the Richmond Hill History Museum to learn more and drive the Coastal Bryan Heritage Trail to see the many other community buildings from the Ford era .
