Empowering Individuals
and Families
We believe that all people deserve a chance to
succeed. Yet basic resources and opportunities
to get ahead remain unequally distributed. The
James M. Cox Foundation supports initiatives
that address the needs of underserved
communities, and that provide resources to
individuals and families to help them make
progress in their daily lives.
Strengthening Families and
Building Community
to expand and improve current facilities for
greater capacity to provide both treatment
and training on site. The investment will allow
CHRIS 180 to build a new training institute and
health clinic, expand its existing facility, purchase
five homes to house children in foster care and
update transitional housing for youth aging
out of foster care. Both the Training Institute
and group homes will be EarthCraft-certified.
This new capacity will help CHRIS 180 increase
training, counseling and care for people in need.
Since 1981, Atlanta-based CHRIS 180 has
been providing behavioral health services for
children and families who have been victims
of trauma, as well as safe, stable homes and
adoption services for foster care children. The
organization deals with systemic problems
that, sadly, are only increasing: CHRIS 180 has
seen a 300 percent increase in need for its
services over the past five years. The James
M. Cox Foundation approved a $750,000
grant to the organization’s capital campaign
CHRIS 180 provides much
needed behavioral health
services to children and families
victimized by trauma.
