COX GIVING
A Vital Partner When
Disaster Strikes
In an era of increasingly frequent and destructive
storms, the efforts of Cox employees, working in
both their professional capacity and as volunteers,
has proved vital in helping communities and
residents prepare for a crisis and get back on their
feet. Cox Media Group broadcast and newspaper
properties serve as a trusted resource for viewers,
listeners and readers. We’re also a long-term
partner and member of the Red Cross Annual
Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) — another way
we’re able to help our communities, even when
things are at their worst.
The 2017 hurricane season was the most
destructive in U.S. history, with Hurricanes Harvey
in Texas and Irma in Florida creating huge paths of
destruction literally within days of each other. An
unprecedented 10 Cox Media Group markets,
from Miami to San Antonio, were impacted by the
hurricanes. Before, during and after the storms
Cox Media Group broadcast and newspaper
properties worked together to provide
unmatched news coverage, helping residents
take precautions in advance of the storms and,
in the aftermath, providing up-to-the-minute
36
information about recovery efforts and where to
find help.
Cox Media Group properties have also taken the
lead as a catalyst for volunteer and philanthropic
assistance to individuals and families impacted
by catastrophic storms. In the aftermath of each
major event, WSB-TV in Atlanta organizes
Convoys of Care, asking viewers, listeners and
readers to donate needed items for shipment
to storm-ravaged areas. As a member of the
ADGP, Cox Automotive pledges $250,000
annually, in advance of major disasters, to ensure
the Red Cross can respond with comfort and care
when disasters occur, help families during the
recovery process, and better prepare communities
for future emergencies.
In addition to their commitment to disaster relief,
Cox Automotive has donated seven fleet vehicles
nationally to the American Red Cross in the last two
years. Five of these vehicles are energy-efficient,
allowing the organization to respond to more
disasters using environmentally friendly methods.
