by: Debbie F Hi guys! As much as Iftar becomes the peak after full day of fasting, the same goes to ending one’s tiring, working day. Most of us tend to check our watch for only-Godknows-how-many times while ensuring the cashier’s report are printed, papers are properly arranged and getting the list of to-do-stuffs are fully prepared for the next day and kept neatly at the right corner of your desk. It is always something other than just grabbing a bag and catches the bus to accommodation (or for those who drive, to drive home). My ‘after-shift’, like others, means a lot to me. Not only it reserves the time for my friends (and ahem…habibi), it also gives me satisfaction to get to my books and ear-stinging tunes on play. One day I enjoy hanging out with friends, the next would be some crazy thriller books with hard tunes of System of A Down in my ears. I will fully equip with a venti-sized of latte, if I got luck. It helps me keeping my feet on the ground and getting myself back to sanity after long day at work. During the recent survey conducted in THDB (a bunch of thanks for my colleagues who contributed and fellow committee who encouraged), I have gathered sort an interesting things that my colleagues could hardly wait to do after their shift ends. Of course, there is always a life other than greeting guests sincerely behind the reception counter and cleaning 15 – 20 guestrooms everyday. It feels good and amazingly energized having to talk and laugh with loved ones at home, or doing some exercises and making dinner while gossiping with your peeps. I absolutely can’t imagine any of my colleagues who are calling her/ his day off and simply do NOTHING! Like me, internet becomes everyone most best friend after work. Or second. You name it; Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo.com or even You Tube, it engages our colleagues in every angle. Not to mention, some online movies and music portals. Almost 50% from overall correspondents live by internet. Essentially, even me. And why not? It is barely to live without one nowadays especially for most of us stay afar from family and loved ones. Well said. And the rest, you may want to see them yourself! Have fun reading! A cheerful frame of mind, reinforced by relaxation… is the medicine that puts all ghosts of fear on the run… George Matthew Adams July 2013 | Majala | 22
