Transitioning from Elementary School to Middle School

By: Madison Tucker and Kawaii Giles

1. Going into middle school you need to realize you are growing up so you should act older than just an elementary kid. Slow down, take a deep breath, and just calm down!. No more recess! So don't be acting like you're on a playground! I know it's exciting and scary, but the hallway is not a place where you need to scream and yell and be super crazy! Just be yourself and you will be fine.

2. In middle school, you start to have more classes and they're not in the same room anymore. But don't worry! It's actually easier than you think! Kepp that schedule in your reach, whether its on a peice of paper, on the top of your binder, or on your phones lock screen. If you can't a classroom or building, just ask somebody. There is bound to be somebody who can help you. Just remember, asking for help is better than getting lost.

3. Know your locker combination! It may sound silly but for the first month of middle school, I didn't know my locker combination and it was a struggle every day! So make sure to learn your combination, and learn how your locker works. All lockers are different so make sure you know how to use yours. Another tip, make sure your locker is organized. If your locker is unorganized you will not be able to track your things and you will likely lose things and papers.

4. Be yourself and don't feel like you hae to change, going into middle school there are going to be al; kinds of cliques of the populars, jocks, band geeks, drama actors, and more. But don't feel like you need to change yourself to fit into any one c;ique. By being yourself that how you will find out who your real friends are. another tip, try sitting with the kid who doesn't have anyone to sit by. If i would've changed one thing while I was in public school, is I wish i would've been more outgping and tried to be a friend to more people, and for you girls don't feel the need to put 10 pounds of makeup on. Only wear makeup if youu like it, if it's comfortable for you, and it makes you feel good about yourself. .

5. Take notes. Pay attention. Work hard. These are your few years to prepare for when it really counts. You have these years to prepare for high school, If you do good in middle school, it is likely that you will do good in high school, with that you can get into a good college and get a good career. Note takers are world shakers. Take notes and do all your homeowork. It's not about aceing the next test or getting good grades, it's about actually making sure you are learning the material and that it is sticking in your brain.
