t cake to buy X-ray
en with breast cancer
biopsies (tissue samples) to see
whether the edges are visibly
clear of cancer.
Currently patients have to wait 45
minutes to an hour for tissue
samples to be tested in the x-ray
department at the trust leading to
longer times under anaesthetic.
Testing samples in the operating
theatre using the BioVision will
take approximately a minute.
At the end of October, and thanks to a
fundraising event held by the Maiden Erlegh
Rotary Club, we achieved our target and an
order has been placed to purchase the
machine. We hope to have the equipment
installed by the end of the year.
From the outset our aim was to
make sure as much as we possibly
could that we would only need to
operate on any patient once and
reduce the likelihood of having to
come back for further surgery. We
are indebted to the many people
who contributed to the fund for
making this campaign a reality.
Over the course of the campaign
we have received huge support from the
community and many people have held
events raising as much as £15,000 from a
Ball to the girls from Brockhurst & Marlston
House Schools who held a cake sale at the
school in early November, raising £375.
