All Of The Lights! my review/recap!
So around 2pm on Sunday I met up with fellow Tumblr TGP fan im-so-gleek at the Roxy. We went exploring (quite aimlessly I might add) around LA for a few hours.
We got back to the venue around 5:15 and there were maybe a couple dozen people lines up already. We had a great view of the side door where people like Michael, Aylin, Abraham, and Cameron popped out of occasionally. Cameron actually stood around outside for a bit and he was like “we can’t start yet because we’re waiting for Damian to get here”.
At one point, we were in line and out of the blue, Grant Gustin walks by the entire line and everyone just goes silent and stares and after he passed, we all sort of erupted into giggles over the fact that he was right there. Robert Ulrich also passed by us and everyone got super excited. Grant also walked by again and posed for pictures.
We got let in at 7:10 and the venue was small and intimate. There was a VIP section where all the Glee and TGP folks were hanging.
At 7:30 the show started with Nellie & Michael. They sounded incredible and looked so overjoyed to be up on that stage. It almost got me a little emotional seeing how far they’ve come since being on the show. They announced their name right after their first song. They sang originals like Don’t Get Me Wrong, Paradise, Axis, Fight For Me, and Lights; and covers like Birds of a Feather, Mia’s Ballad, and Little Talks. I’m sure I’m missing stuff but honestly, I was just so focused on enjoying myself in the moment. At one point, Lily Mae was in the crowd mouthing the words along with Nellie.
They finished at 8:15 and there was a little break before Cameron was going to come on. Hannah from season 1 wiggled her way to the front for Cameron’s set. Also, Lily Mae was up in the DJ booth with Michael’s brother Adam and she was basically “hosting” for the night. After Nellie and Michael’s set, she was like “weren’t they amazing? I’m like the biggest Michellie fan ever” and I just cracked up because she is indeed a HUGE Michellie fan.
Cameron came on and I was quite surprised because the new stuff he played was just so different from what I knew of his music. It was like sort of electronic/pop, bass-driven (the whole venue was shaking literally lol). He also did some stuff with his guitar like Love Can Wait and Blackbird. Then he brought out Damian which was awesome. Their bromance is just the best! Damian sang “Yellow” and then Cameron made him sing “Call Me Maybe” with him, though he said it was more like “Call Me Never” because Damian doesn’t like it. He closed off his set with “The Scientist”. On a side note, in the middle of Cameron’s set, two hands grabbed my shoulders and I heard a “excuse me”…when I looked beside me, it was none other than Mr. Charlie Lubeck HAHAHA I was beyond shocked.
In between Cameron and Abraham’s set, I FINALLY met Makena (waitingforinspiration here on Tumblr) and I say finally because we had literally been tweeting each other back and forth for HOURS. We were being totally creep stalker-status…mostly me because I could see her during Nellie and Michael’s set, mouthing the words to every song and practically crying during “Lights” (Yes Makena, I just told the world that :P). But she told me about her experience meeting Nellie and giving her the book for the Paradise project and I was just genuinely overjoyed for her.
Last but not least was Abraham who freakin’ KILLED his entire set. Seeing his fierceness in person was like unreal. I mean you think you see fierce when you watch the show but he brought the night to a new level. He sang “Hold It Against Me” and “Where Have You Been” with dancers. He also sang “Somewhere Only We Know” with AJ Rafael and he got kind of emotional when we all sang along. He also sang his original song “Bravest Goodbye” which was stunning. His voice just soared the entire time. He brought out Shanna to sing her single “Burning” and Aylin to sing “My Body” with him (which might I add was an EXTREMELY hot performance haha). He closed with “Someone Like You” because that’s the song that started it all. Then he did a little encore of “Die Young” which was one big dance party.
After the show, I met Nellie again. I was determined to get a picture with her this time since I clumsily forgot to take one with her last time we met. It was pretty rushed because there were SO many people who wanted to talk to her and the venue was shooing us out, but I got my picture! YAY! and Nellie recognized me! I also met Abraham again and I complimented him on how fierce he was. He recognized me as well and said “look at you girl, two for two” haha.
This was such an unforgettable night full of incredible music, lots of fun, and great company! I consider myself so blessed to see all these folks in the flesh! TGP cast members: Cameron, Damian, Hannah, Lindsay, Samuel, Alex, and Bryce, Nellie, Michael, Abraham, Blake, Aylin, Charlie, Shanna, Lily Mae, and Tyler; as well as Glee cast members: Grant Gustin, Dean Geyer, and Melissa Benoist; and to be in the same room as an even longer list of awesome people.
