TGA - The Global Achievers Issue 3/2023 | Page 14

I had a mental disability, and sometimes I was pitied. I felt like an outsider in high school, but this taught me how to take pride in being different. I also have a brother who had a very difficult life. He made a lot of mistakes and ended up serving time. For a long time, I was very depressed and confused about this, but since he has been out, I have been spending holidays with him and helping him transition back into life. Our relationship has grown stronger, and I have learned to have patience and be more tolerant of all people.

In my adult life, I worked with a training organization teaching management and supervisory training that I loved and adored. It made me so happy; I would drive to Orange County just to teach and train in industry. I put the work over getting paid and accumulated bills to buy an inexpensive car that amounted to 12,000. Others got paid, and yet I couldn’t get my share. It taught me to monitor my income and make certain I get paid for my work.

In addition, teaching youth was a great passion. There was a shortage of teachers under Emergency Education, so I received a temporary teaching credential. The greatest achievement was discovering a gifted child; helping a mother understand her disturbed daughter who was only communicating her sadness of her departed daughter and getting a mother to purchase a bunk bed to avoid cockroach bites.   Nonetheless, a young girl lied because I wouldn’t let her go out for cheerleaders. They took me out of the classroom and sat in the district office for 6 months.  At the end of the semester, I gathered 50 letters stating I would never do what I was accused of grabbing a young girl by the arms.   Lessons learned: children are my passion. .I have helped elevate numerous children to international awards shows and promoted them on my tv show.  It encouraged me to teach college students who could leave my classroom at any time they pleased. Anywhere I go children are drawn to me. One of these examples is Kyra Pesebre whose mother is Sheila San Juan Pesebre . Kyra is  an eight year old international sensation who is a singer and dancer. She calls me Doc.
