Guyanese Sirnee

Recipe Ingredients : - 1 cup all-purpose flour - 1 cup sugar - 1 egg - 2 cups evaporated milk - 1 cinnamon stick - A few cardamom pods - 1 tsp nutmeg - 1 tsp mixed essence - 1 / 2 cup raisins - 1 / 3 cup cherries - 1 / 3 cup of sliced almonds or nut of your choice ( optional ) - A few cloves - 1 stick salted butter - 1 cup orange soda
Instructions :
1 . In a heavy-bottomed pot , add milk , nutmeg , cinnamon sticks , and cloves . Bring to a simmer .
2 . Turn off the heat and add sugar and mixed essence .
Let the milk mixture cool down to room temperature , then add the beaten egg .
3 . In a pan , toast sliced almonds for 5-6 minutes and set aside .
4 . In a heavy-bottomed pan , melt butter . Add flour and cook for 8-10 minutes over low heat . 5 . Then , add raisins , cherries , and toasted almonds . 6 . Pour in the milk mixture and stir constantly . 7 . Add orange soda and stir until the mixture begins to pull away from the pan . 8 . Plate and serve
