npatient rehabilitation has many advantages for patients
and their families. In addition to logistical convenience,
Carrus Rehabilitation Hospital relieves family members
from delivering around-the-clock care. Advanced therapeutic
services provided in an inpatient setting offer intensive therapies and support to help patients get back on their feet, and
on with their lives, more quickly.
Carrus Rehabilitation Hospital offers physical, occupational and speech therapies to its patients. Physical therapy
helps patients achieve an optimal range of motion, restore
strength, improve balance, and enhance agility. “The success rate with physical therapy following surgery, such as
knee replacement, has improved significantly, even from 10
to 15 years ago,” says Matt Thompson, Carrus physical therapist. “We want to get patients back to the level they were
before surgery–– maybe even better!
“Typically, Carrus patients are here 10 to 14 days,”
Thompson continues. “They benefit from being under a
physician’s supervision, as well as a structured plan developed for them. Our programs are comprehensive and
compassionate, offering patients input from multiple professional disciplines.”
Carrus provides state-of-the-art technology within a beautiful
facility that includes private rooms, four landscaped courtyards and a koi-filled pond on the perimeter of the property.
The surroundings at Carrus are intended to minimize stress
and create opportunities for healing.
Even if patients are hospitalized in another city, they can still
request inpatient rehabilitation services at Carrus so that they
can recover closer to home. The Carrus Clinical Hospital
Liaisons (903-870-2699) can facilitate a transfer and assist
patients with transportation and post-discharge needs.

“A stroke CAn AffeCt different
areas of the brain. Our team will discover
what impairments exist and develop a
treatment program customized to that
individual. As physical therapists we
want to help the patient regain strength
as quickly as possible, so we try to get
them up on their feet the first day. If that’s
not possible, we work our way up!

With a stroke, an entire side of the
body can be affected. We take a holistic
approach and treat the whole person.
At Carrus, we utilize a nationally-known
instrument called FIM and most of our
patients achieve tremendous results –
gains far above the national average. We
work well together as a team – with each
other, with patients, with physicians, and
with families.”
