at the ceiling, just numb. The next morning before heading to the orphanage I reached out again,
“Did you pray, I’m dying over here.” I was undone by her response. This is what she said:
“I asked The Lord how to pray for this situation and the various aspects of it. I sat and
waited a bit for Him. First off, I felt led to pray for the children. For comfort, peace
and His love to envelope them. I felt led to pray for angels to be dispatched to the
children. I literally saw them (angels) kneeling down next to the children as they were
in bed. The angels had smiles on their faces, their arms encircling the children and,
dare I say...tickling them! I saw sadness, grief and rejection go as the angels ministered to the children. It was a ministry to their spirits as the children were asleep.
Then I prayed for the head nun. I prayed for encounters with God’s love. Deeper levels
of intimacy. I prayed for the orphanage workers, cook, janitor, every person there—
that they would know God, that the very atmosphere of that place would change.
And for you, Michelle, I pray for spiritual refreshment and refilling of your cup. I
encourage you with the truth that wherever you go, you carry His presence and
wherever your footsteps, you bring Him. His light pours through you to the darkness around you. Be encouraged not discouraged. He is pleased with you!”
The next day we arrived at the orphanage with a renewed spirit. My friends prayer was answered
as the very atmosphere of the place had changed. The children happily ran and played, unaffected
by the prior day’s events, as if they’d never happened. The head mother warmly greeted us while the
other nuns and caregivers prepared our breakfast.
Angels...messengers, guardians, protectors. Never to be put in the place of an awesome God whose
greatness takes my breath away! He created them. Psalm 104: 4 says He makes His angels spirits,
His ministers a flame of fire. I’m so thankful He does! David continues in verse 5: “You, our Creator,
formed the earth, and you hold it all together so it will never fall apart.” Even when we feel like our
world is crumbling, I pray we’ll remember this prayer.
