The Project Management Institute, Inc. (www.pmi.org)
is a non-profit association for project managers. As the
world’s largest association for the profession, it not
only provides numerous resources for project
managers, but also has certification programs to
validate that credentialed individuals have requisite
knowledge of the terminology and best-practices, and
have minimum experience levels in project
management in one or more industries. Two valuable
credentials are:

PMP® (Project Management Professional) is
the most common, with more than 500,000
certified world-wide. It requires at least 4
years of project management experience and
successfully passing a 4-hour exam on the
language, methods, and skills critical to effective project planning and implementation.
