Usually when you think of Christianity and
fellowship; you don’t identify either of the two
as a weekday lunch hour happening.
As I pulled into the parking lot of the South
Montgomery Community Center in The
Woodlands, two weeks ago; I was thinking I
was possibly arriving early for a luncheon
being held by the OCF organization; I was
proven wrong only to find all the parking
spaces taken; as more attendees arrived dealing
with the same
challenge…finding a
parking spot. Thankfully
someone upstairs opened
a space for me.
Walking through the
double doors, I was
looking for a sign that
would tell me where the
luncheon was taking
place. There was no
signage; instead I
followed my ears to the
sounds of laughter and
socializing into a large
banquet room at the back of the building.
I was amazed at how many employees had
taken off from their comfort zone, and routine
lunch hub to attend this luncheon for the same
reason…to hear the good word and Gods works
in the lives of men and women who have that
one thing in common of; Christians who work
in the oil industry.
The President and Cofounder welcomed
everyone, and expressed
the vision of the OCF
ministering to the oil
patch, (as they grabbed
their prepaid box lunches
that were going fast as
they had not anticipated
such a large turnout).
They eventually had to
send out for more
sandwiches. Before
introducing the guest
speaker from Anadarko, Mr. Bird led the lunch
with prayer.
The speaker then took the floor and shared the
many times God has worked in his life along
with testimonials. He recited scripture and
ended with the many movements in the world
that are not mentioned of disciple making
which was Gods last
instruction. He prayed and
invited anyone in need of
prayer to go up after the
lunch was over.
Never before had I felt so
comfortable at a function
where I didn’t know anyone. As everyone slowly
left, I noticed no one
seemed in a hurry as they
did when they arrived.
This being my first OCF
luncheon, I can see why
so many are drawn here
and I’m looking forward to the next event.
