The energy services company held a ceremony to mark the opening of a purpose built,
two-floor facility spanning 8,400 square feet (780 square meters) at its site in Kenedy
on October 3, 2013, and Texas Oil & Gas magazine was there to tour it. The new
premises boast a large indoor workshop for welding and construction, featuring in-built
overhead bridge cranes and new office space.
Providing maintenance, installation and fabrication services to the South Texas onshore oil
and gas market, notably to operators in the Eagle Ford shale region, Wood Group Duval employs 400 people with approximately 250 people based onsite in Kenedy, and 150 people
spread across locations in Freer, Carrizo Springs and Zapata.
This is the first in a series of planned expansion projects for Wood Group Duval on the
Kenedy site. In anticipation of future growth, the company has ear marked over $11 million
(USD) of additional investment to build accommodation units to house up to 200 site-based
employees and bring a new, dedicated training facility to the site.
When speaking with Rene Casas, Wood Group Duval president, he said: “We are expanding our site facilities at Kenedy to meet the growing demand for our services in the Eagle
Ford shale region. This is the largest Wood Group Duval operation and in the last year, we
have increased the size of our workforce by 100 people. We are currently exploring plans to
expand the breadth of our services to account for maintenance upgrades and troubleshooting.”

Core Values are the Heart of
Wood Group PSN
The new fabrication shop is open and has
indoor workshop space for welders and
construction personnel, which shelters them
from the sun and adverse weather. It also
houses two built in, overhead bridge cranes,
which minimizes the need to bring in heavy
equipment to move materials around the
workshop. Both improve the safety of the
work environment and the productivity of
employees.
When speaking to employees, you notice the
high morale and enthusiasm of the crowd.
The shop is full of laughter and camaraderie.
Everyone is proud of their new facility. Derek
Blackwood, President for Wood Group PSN
Americas, along with other senior
management from the Wood Group PSN
Americas region headquarters in Houston,
Texas, discussed the exciting news of much
more to come in Eagle Ford.
Displayed around the shop are the
company's core values in both English and
Spanish. Prior to touring the facility, a safety
presentation was given and personal
