He has played a vital role in South Texas and the Eagle Ford Shale area by providing information about CNG & LNG in Transportation . Promoting the Natural Gas industry has been an educational endeavor as Chip continues to pass on the understanding of how fleet conversion can pass along a huge savings to corporations and government entities . Chip discussed natural gas & fleet conversion at the TOG Eagle Ford Shale Conference in May at the RMB Fairgrounds in Robstown , TX . Chip explained that natural gas is CLEAN , SAFE , POWERFUL , & AFFORDABLE . Natural gas is mostly methane , which is only one carbon atom . It reduces GHG by 21 to 27 percent . It also reduces particulate matter by up to 95 %. Natural gas is safer by having a higher ignition temperature than diesel or gasoline ( 1000-1100 degrees F ). It has a narrow range of oxygen / fuel combustions ratio ( 5-15 %). Natural gas is also powerful with an octane rating of -130 and HD natural gas engines have the equivalent torque and horsepower to diesel counterparts . With the National price being around $ 1.75 / GGE it is definitely affordable . In October of 2012 Love ’ s Travel Stop opened its first high-flow CNG station in Oklahoma City and expect to open HD CNG Stations in 2013 in Ft . Worth , TX , Dallas , TX , Rockwall , TX , Willis , TX , Houston , TX , Katy , TX , San Antonio , TX and Seguin , TX . This will help develop what is considered the Texas Triangle . This development is important as the market for fleet conversion continues to grow strong . National Fleets with natural gas vehicles include DART , US Foods , O ’ Reilly , RUAN , Frito Lay , Ryder , Coca-Cola , FedEx , Sysco , SWIFT , WalMart , JB Hunt , and UPS to just name a few . Natural Gas Vehicles are a fleet owner ’ s dream . With the cost in fuel savings , the cost of conversion can be gained by the 3 rd year of operation . There is no industry that could go without looking into fleet conversion . Airports , transits ( city buses ), school districts , short haul delivery , utilities , small businesses , and energy companies are great examples of where NGVs have been utilized successfully . If you are interested in learning more about cost and logistics of converting your fleet vehicles to NGVs please contact Chip Haass at chip . haass @ chk . com
