At our 2014 economic forecast event
in Austin speaker Tyson Tuttle, CEO of
Silicon Labs, shared insights on the next
big technology disruptive play – better
known as the Internet of Things. While I
sat and listened to Tyson talk about all the
ramifications of M2M (machine to machine)
technology and what it means for businesses
inside Texas and beyond our borders, I
knew there needed to be an issue of Texas
CEO focused on the topic. I returned to ask
Tyson to contribute the kickoff article for
this issue with an explanation of the impact
of billions of interconnected devices.
In our feature pieces as part of our
Enlightened Speaker Series, meet Andres
Carvallo. Andres was on the team at Austin
Energy when they launched one of the first
electricity smart grids in the U.S. and also
was part of the Pecan Street Project. (The
Pecan Street Project is a smart grid and
consumer research organization launched
in conjunction with the University of Texas
at Austin.) As Andres told me, “If you have
products that need electricity to power them
(sensors, computers, phones, WiFi) you
better be paying attention to the smart grid
and what that means, long term.”
There are many ramifications –
intellectual property, workspaces, data,
connectivity, innovation, and integrating the
generations. There are articles to address all
of these topics.
Read on.
