FEATURES: INSTALLATION thing I’ve learned from this job is management, which was quite a steep learning curve, and how to communicate with and educate the end user, teaching them how to use the systems once they were up and running. This included training for the A-T radio mics and goosenecks. I’m quite con dent that they are fully able to use all the systems we’ve installed.’ More than 1,000 LAX HCT series ceiling speakers have been installed throughout the hotel’s themed restaurants, corridors, bars and conference rooms. In addition, both ballrooms have been installed with L-Acoustics KARAi modular line source speakers, with a left-right hang of six per-side in each room. In addition, the larger ballroom is also installed with 24 L-Acoustics 12XTi high performance coaxial loudspeakers. A total of 30 AudioTechnica U857 cardioid condenser quick-mount gooseneck mics are also being used in the larger ballrooms. The Ruifeng team was also responsible for the installation of Audio-Technica wireless microphone systems in the ballrooms and the 26 multipurpose meeting rooms. Most of these rooms are of a similar size and can accommodate around 30 people; however one is a smaller, more luxurious VIP meeting room designed for just 10 delegates. ‘Audio-Technica has a good relationship with Ruifeng, and they use a lot of our products for their installations,’ says Freddie Wong, Audio-Technica’s director, sales and marketing, Greater China. The relationship between the two companies was cemented during the Beijing Olympic Games, for which Inside one of the multifunction rooms The Audio-Technica and LAX teams in one of the multipurpose meeting rooms Ruifeng and LAX were awarded a number of contracts for xed installation projects. This was further strengthened during the Asian Games, and the companies now work together on installations in stadia, schools and for government projects. Each room uses Audio-Technica ATW-2120a Frequency-agile True Diversity UHF wireless systems, with a combination of U857QM, ES937aH and ES935ML6 gooseneck mics and AT8668S anti-shock mic stands for each system. Representatives from Audio-Technica in Japan travelled to the hotel earlier this year and were impressed with what they saw. ‘It was a good opportunity to see such a large, multiple use of our systems,’ says Yuki Otomo, from the company’s pro audio product planning team. ‘The amazing thing is that they all work simultaneously. There are a lot of meeting rooms in the venue and they are using many of the systems at the same time. To design a system which is able to work together is not easy, so I was impressed with how they have done this.’ ‘From previous experience of working with our brand, the technicians at Ruifeng recognised that Audio-Technica mics are very suitable for conference rooms in terms of sensitivity and directivity,’ says Mr Wong. ‘They are very exible; in other words it’s not critical where you place the mics inside a room. The setup allocates six goosenecks to each of the meeting rooms, which can be used by one person or several sharing it. However, additional mics can be moved from the other rooms to join the system if more are required. Rooms are usually set up in classroom style, with the six units placed in the front row for the speakers, but again the system allows a great deal of exibility if this con guration needs to be different.’ The meeting rooms have now been open for several months, and by all accounts business has already been brisk. All of the rooms are in regular use, and business events have included a 1,000-delegate AGM for US pharmaceutical giant P zer. Ruifeng also installed other areas of the hotel with sound reinforcement equipment, including Electro-Voice Evid C12.2 ceiling speakers in the entrance porch of the convention centre, eight in the entrance of the larger ballroom and 16 in the smaller ballroom. Enewave loudspeakers have been used for the hotel lobby, with a system of eight Lark 8 loudspeakers, four VS8 loudspeakers and four Lark LS15 subwoofers. The ballroom ready for a function Having spent six months overseeing systems integration at the Hengqin Bay Hotel, Mr Wang is now doing the same at two more hotels which will also serve the resort. ‘I’ve learned a lot from this project and am sure these new skills will help with the other two buildings,’ he says. Once the International Ocean Resort is fully open later this year, China will boast a leisure and business destination the likes of which the world has never seen. www.audio-technica.com.hk www.laxpro.net w w w. r m e - a u d i o. co m The MADI unlimited flexibility for multichannel audio networks See the power of System Reinvented explore the performance and capabilities of the new RME MADI Router.
