S
ome return visitors say St.
Tropez has lost its original
allure from the ‘60s and
‘70s, but frequent celebrity
visits (Kate Moss, Princess
Beatrice, Elton John and David Furnish,
Bono, Penelope Cruz, Sting, Beyonce
and Jay-Z, Bruce Willis, Paris Hilton and
Leonardo DiCaprio, to name a few) continue to prove that St. Tropez is still just
as lavish and fabulous as always.
Like most of the Riviera’s famous
(or infamous) resort towns, St. Tropez
was originally a homely fishing village.
A stroll through Place aux Herbes brings
travelers to narrow streets conjuring
a pasttime, where fishermen sell their
daily catch. The pulse of the town is at
Place des Lices, filled with open-air cafes and restaurants, swanky bars, luxury
hotels and designer boutiques. History
is preserved well with old-school bars
and squares that have not changed for
centuries.
