Tournament Committee Report Harold Geyer highlighted the tournament committee report: Players Tour – Participation decreased by 3 percent and purses decreased by 4 percent compared to 2011. Major Championships – Participation has increased by 5 percent and purses were up by 4 percent primarily due to increased participation in the Pro-Assistant and Pro-Pro. PGA TOUR – Participation is up 4 percent and net income has increased by 6 percent in the two events conducted year to date; The Section has netted $45,051 from PGA TOUR activity year to date. Sponsor Update – Ryan Kossick provided the Board with a sponsor update: o Through the first four events, sponsorship is up by 12 percent. o Currently all other events for the remainder of 2012 are projected to be flat or slightly ahead of last year’s sponsorship with the exception of the Texas State Open where Joyce Crane is no longer a sponsor, however, they will be the new title sponsor of the Section Championship this year. Texas Women’s Open Future Location – Mark Harrison provided an update on the Texas Women’s Open and the fact that the Lakes at Castle Hills will be the title sponsor this year, it is the first time that the Texas State Open and Texas Women’s Open have been conducted at the same facility in the same year. Going forward, the Texas Women’s Open is still an event that is difficult to sell sponsorship for and a facility really needs to take ownership of the event, much like Eastern Hills did for a decade for the event to be successful financially. Staff discussed the possibility of potentially selling the Texas Women’s Open in the future to the Texas Women’s Golf Association. Pro-Pro Location / Eligibility / Format – Ryan Kossick lead discussion of the possible change of location of the Pro-Pro Championship, eligibility and format. o The Board had an active discussion and provided staff the directive to relocate the championship from Oklahoma back to Shreveport, LA and to pursue the Eldorado Casino as the title sponsor. o In doing so, staff expressed the importance of good participation as the event was steadily trending downward from a participation standpoint and the Eldorado Casino and all sponsors would want a solid turnout to justify their financial support. Staff recommended considering opening the event up to teams from either or both the Gulf States Section and / or the Southern Texas Section. After discussion, the Board made the determination to leave the event as is from an eligibility standpoint and reevaluate again after 2013 if participation is not sufficient. o Various changes in formats were discussed, however, it was decided to revisit the topic later in the year after the sponsor / site had been secured.
