2012 Number of Events: 5 Average Number of Participants: 56.6 Gross Income: $113,925.00 Net Income: $19,156.26 Total of Purses: $72,700.00 In summary, from 2011 to 2012 the average number of participants at each NTPGA Players Tour event decreased 3.1%, total purses decreased 3.8% and net income decreased 0.5%. A special thank you to the following golf facilities for their support of the NTPGA Players Tour this year: Las Colinas Country Club, Lantana Golf Club, Old American Golf Club, Stonebridge Ranch Country Club (Hills), TPC Craig Ranch and The Golf Club of Dallas. PLAYING ABILITY TEST PROGRAM The Northern Texas PGA scheduled seven Playing Ability Tests in 2012 with six conducted and one canceled due to inclement weather. Within the six events conducted, 207 people participated compared to 225 in five events in 2011. A total of 74 (35.7%) of the participants successfully passed compared to 28.4% passing in the five events conducted in 2011. The $45.00 standard on-site entry fee that facilities charge to contestants is among the lowest in the country. The PGA requires all Playing Ability Tests to be conducted by certified examiners. CLUB CAR / JANI-KING PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINTS CHALLENGE Stuart Deane, PGA teaching professional at Sinclair’s Golf Training Center in Euless, captured the 2012 Club Car / JaniKing Player of the Year Award with a total of 381.00 points. Deane captured the title by a 51 point margin over Troy Denton, PGA assistant professional at Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas. Deane's year included victories at the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship and Callaway Golf Western Championship and a top 10 finish in the Joyce Crane Section Championship. He finished the year by capturing the Club Car / Jani-King Match Play Championship as the #1 overall seed. Deane has three NTPGA individual major championships to his name. This marks Deane’s first Player of the Year Award. BEN HOGAN STROKE PLAY SCORING AVERAGE Deane also captured the 2012 Ben Hogan / NTPGA Stroke Play Average Award with a stroke average of 70.63 for eight rounds. He shot six sub-par rounds in the four individual majors. He also led the Section in total eagles and birdies made, carding 3 eagles and 28 birdies in the eight rounds. This marks Deane’s second Ben Hogan / NTPGA Stroke Play Average Award as he also won the award in 2010. NTPGA SENIOR POINTS CHALLENGE Benny Passons, PGA Life Member, captured the NTPGA Senior Points Challenge Award. Passons amassed 275.00 points with a Senior Division win at the Joyce Crane Section Championship, a 2 nd place finish in the E-Z-GO / UST Mamiya Eastern Championship, tied for 2nd place in the Callaway Golf Western Championship and tied for 14th place in the KBS Tour Shafts Seniors’ Championship. TEXAS JOE BLACK CUP MATCHES Captain Lindy Miller and the Northern Texas PGA team captured the 32nd Texas Joe Black Cup Matches by a recordsetting point total of 16 to 8. The Matches were held October 29-30 at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas. The NTPGA now leads the Matches with an overall record of 16-15-1. The Texas Joe Black Cup Matches is an annual competition between the Northern Texas PGA and the Southern Texas PGA Sections. The event was started in 1981 to honor Joe Black, who was completing his first year as president of The PGA of America. JAMES P. JORDAN CUP MATCHES The 22nd Annual James P. Jordan Cup Matches, contested between teams of assistant golf professionals from the Northern Texas Section and the South Central Section, was held November 12-13 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. Captain Thomas Devanna and the Northern Texas PGA team won the Matches with a 15 ½ to 2 ½ point total. The NTPGA holds a commanding 17-3-2 lead in the overall record of the Matches. The event is named for the late James P. Jordan, a past chairman of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and Northwood Club member. 29
