Executive Council Appoints
Dr. Barbara Young as Public
Representative
Dr. Barbara Young was appointed as Public
Representative at the NSCA Certification
Commission Executive Council meeting held on
February 21, 2004, in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Young
is a retired Higher Education Administrator from the
Office of the Chancellor at the California State
University System Headquarters. Dr. Young served
for three years as a member of the California
Respiratory Board and is currently Vice President of
the Goodwill Board of Long Beach/South Bay. Dr.
Young received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social
Psychology and Master of Arts degree in Counseling
Education from California State University,
Sacramento. She holds a doctorate in Education
Administration, Policy and Planning from the
University of Southern California (USC).
The previous Public Representative was Dr. Marybell
Avery, who is a Curriculum Specialist for Health and
Physical Education in the Lincoln, Nebraska Public
School system. Dr. Avery resigned after 11 years of
dedicated service to the Commission.
CEU Quizzes Gain BOC
Approval for ATCs
The NSCA Certi?cation Commission has recently
acquired the NATA Board of Certi?cation’s (BOC)
approval for Certi?cation Commission CEU Quizzes
featured in each NSCA Strength and Conditioning
Journal.
Individuals working toward recerti?cation for the
CSCS® and NSCA-CPT® will receive 0.5 CEUs in
Category B. Individuals working toward Certi?ed
Athletic Trainer (ATC) recerti?cation will receive 1.0
CEU toward their ATC recerti?cation for completing
an NSCA Strength and Conditioning Journal quiz.

10-Year NSCA-Certified
Personal Trainer® Anniversary
The NSCA Certification Commission will be
celebrating its 10-year anniversary of the NSCACerti?ed Personal Trainer program at the 2004 NSCA
National Conference in Minneapolis. All currently
certified NSCA-CPTs who attend this year’s
conference will be honored at the Certification
Commission’s Thursday night Reception (July 15).
Currently there are 6,025 individuals NSCA-CPT certi?ed. The ?rst NSCA-CPT exam was administered
in June 1994 in New Orleans, and it attracted 73
candidates—49 passed. Since then, 18,129 have
taken the exam at 796 exam sites throughout the
world.
CSCS and NSCA-CPT Online
Practice Exams
The NSCA Certification Commission offers
opportunities for both Certified Strength and
Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and NSCA-Certi?ed
Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) certi?cants to earn
CEUs by taking the practice exams online. Online
practice exams provide a convenient format for
earning CEUs, especially for international certi?cants.
Previously available only as a booklet and video, the
CSCS and NSCA-CPT Practice Exams can now be
experienced in a Web-based format.
