United States Tennis Association.
(2004). Dynamic Tennis WarmUps: Better preparation for
better performance (DVD).
Champaign, IL: Human Kinetics.
The United States Tennis Association has
produced a new DVD on dynamic warm
ups. This DVD is produced by NSCA
member Scott Riewald, PhD, CSCS, and
NSCA member Mark Verstegen, MS,
CSCS provides on-screen coaching.
The video is divided into ?ve sections:
introduction, what is dynamic warm-up?,
using dynamic warm-up, movement
routines, and wrap-up. The majority of
the video is dedicated to tennis speci?c
movement routines, which includes three
warm ups that emphasize forward/backward movements, lateral movements, and
multi-directional movements.
The set-up of the video makes its reviewing value very high. From the main menu
you can go back and view any of the three
programs, and within the programs, each
exercise is its own chapter. This makes
it easy to skip ahead or back to find a
speci?c exercise to review.
If you work with tennis players, and are
looking for dynamic warm ups to add to
your program, look no further than this
video. Even if you don’t work with tennis
players, but want to learn some new
dynamic warm up drills, you may want
to look into this video.

Epley, B. (2004). The Path to
Athletic Power. Champaign, IL:
Human Kinetics.
The Path to Athletic Power is written by
NSCA founder Boyd Epley, and provides
the information beginning strength
coaches need. This includes Boyd’s ten
principles of conditioning, and how to
set up your facilities and equipment.
This book also contains information on
how to perform testing, evaluation, goal
setting, program design, and how these
four areas work together. In addition, over
65 resistance training, plyometric, and
speed development exercises are included.
What separates this book from others
is that it discusses the history of sport
conditioning and Boyd Epley’s involvement with the early years of trying to
develop acceptance for the ?eld. The
conclusion of the book also looks at the
history of the NSCA, and what the
future may bring to the ?eld of strength
and conditioning. In addition, Boyd
discusses ?nancial support, and how the
University of Nebraska raises funds for
strength and conditioning.
If you are interested in the history of the
University of Nebraska’s strength and
