The meeting point between the beauty of nature and the ingenuity of man at this dam has created something that is worth seeing: the sun that reflects in the crystal clear waters of the artificial lake that slithers between the hills, encircled by green or snow-capped mountains is an extraordinary sight! It took six years to build the dam of Castreccioni. A great work of engineering 67 metres high and 280m long, it created the largest artificial lake in both the Marches region and central Italy. What makes it so different from other lakes? The 2km of surface area, which extends to depths of 55m in places, is home to many migrant birds and has a rich aquatic fauna including perch, trout, pike, pike-perch, sea trout, royal perch, European chub, catfish, Crucian carp, rudd and carp.
