Blob Doors
Project up a large image of ‘Blob Doors’ and get your group to discuss what it might mean? After a few suggestions provide one
interpretation – that each door represents the same opportunity. Ask
why the Blobs are behaving the way they are with the same opportunity? Allow everyone time to talk with a partner first, before asking
for a few volunteers to share their ideas with the whole group. The
bolder children won’t need this, but the quiet ones will feel enabled
to share having shared their thoughts with one other group member.
(You may also like to give an example which is relevant to your
group such as getting a job, going to school or University or leaving
home.)
Point out the Blob which you felt like at a difficult moment in your
life when you made the wrong decision and explain why. By setting
a lead it shows your vulnerability and opens up the chance for
others to share their hearts too. See if anyone else will share a difficult decision, how they reacted, and which way they faced it. If
there are several volunteers choose a few, depending on how much
time there is available.
Round off the discussion by sharing that even if we make the wrong
decision this time…there will be another opportunity coming our
way soon!
Finish off by giving each of them an A5 version of ‘Blob Doors’ to
take home, with the challenge to make the best choice for our future
life. You might like to suggest that they Blu Tac it in their bedroom
and to consider it whenever they face a difficult choice.
