To the Student
Congratulations on entering French Level 4! With this program, you will further your knowledge of
French and francophone cultures and increase your proficiency to communicate in the French language.
The textbook units are centered around these six themes: Families and Communities, Contemporary
Life, Personal and Public Identities, Global Challenges, Science and Technology, and Beauty and
Aesthetics. Each lesson is framed with an essential question (Quel rôle la famille et la société jouent-
elles dans nos choix amoureux ? Comment les cultures marquent-elles le passage de l’enfance à
l’adolescence puis à l’âge adulte ? Comment est-on enrichi par les produits, les pratiques et les
points de vue d’autres cultures ?, etc.) to provide a deeper and richer learning experience. You will
be exposed to a wide selection of materials from authentic original sources written for teen and adult
Francophone speakers from their world, such as book reviews, interviews with writers and scientists,
blog entries, online forum postings, poems, song lyrics, dialogues and excerpts from novels and
memoirs. You will also be exposed to authentic audio recordings from francophone radio stations and
other sources to perfect your listening skills.
With T’es branché ? Level 4, you will learn to analyze print and audio texts, make comparisons between
your world and the francophone world and apply what you have learned by writing formal e-mail
replies, essays and doing some creative writing. To improve your speaking skills, you will participate in
conversations, discussions and debates. In both speaking and writing you will practice supporting your
opinions on a range of topics. You will also learn to identify the relationships among products, practices
and perspectives of the francophone world.
If you choose to attend college, this program will allow you to use what you have learned about French
in high school to meet specific goals. Contact the university of your choice to find out if they give
credits for your high school learning, allow you to test out of the college language requirement or place
you in an appropriate level of college French if you want to continue your studies. Some of you may
want to take the AP Language and Culture exam given by the College Board. This course has everything
you need for both sections of the exam: the Multiple Choice section and the Free Response section.
The Student Text, Workbook, and AP Language and Culture Exam Preparation supplement contain
abundant practice in answering multiple choice questions, writing e-mail replies, argumentative essays,
speaking in guided conversations and making cultural comparisons presentations. Whether you are
preparing for the AP French or the IB Language B exam, T’es branché ? will help you strengthen your
proficiency in the Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational modes of communication.
We wish you much success in your study of French with T’es branché ? Level 4! Bonne continuation !
