Making “ The Text ” led to a couple of the most serendipitous moments of her career . She couldn ’ t find an appropriate house to film interior scenes in until a Facebook friend she had never met offered her home in Seelyville for a week while her family went camping .
Even more miraculous was matching the crashed SUV provided by a local towing company with a corresponding operating one for the scenes before the tragedy . It was a 2008 Saturn VUE , which a local dealership told her might be impossible to locate as they were no longer made . Beard drove around Terre Haute parking lots trying to find one to no avail .
Until she pulled into a parking lot searching for something else and , lo and behold , there was a black Saturn VUE with matching rims . She ran into nearby stores to find the owner and found him in a bicycle shop . Though she was wearing a COVID-19 mask , the VUE ’ s owner recognized her by her voice from when she donated plasma . He rented her his vehicle .
“ I felt like I had won the lottery ,” Beard marveled . “ That was such an incredible blessing , that not only did I just pull right in next to it , but it belonged to someone I was already affiliated with and he knew he could trust me and I could trust him .”
Nonetheless , “ The Text ” will be her last film — she can ’ t find the support that indie filmmakers need and her husband , who had provided funding for her films in the past , is preparing for imminent retirement and couldn ’ t expend the money for “ The Text ,” which she financed by having a lot of fundraisers .
Beard has no plans yet for the future ; Daniel will seek work shooting TV commercials .
“ It ’ s been a really long journey ,” Beard said . “ We ’ ve had our ups and downs . We ’ ve had our struggles for sure , but I ’ m really excited for this film and the future .”
