YEARS IN BUSINESS : Since 1966 .
Dr . Meredeth Gray is the Dentist and owner of Smudde Family Dentistry . Growing up in a family of Dental professionals , and working at my dad ’ s office as a child , helped solidify my decision to change careers from Financial Analyst to Dentist . With two young children at home and a supportive husband , I completed six additional years of college and graduated from IU School of Dentistry on the Dean ’ s List . I am the sole owner of our family Practice that started in 1966 with my uncle and then my father , Carl Smudde . I take great pride in continuing our family business and offering every patient the best dental care possible . Developing relationships with and helping patients has been a wonderful addition to my life . I ’ ve met some extraordinary women through my membership with the League of Terre Haute . Also , with the help of Jane Santucci , we have initiated awareness of the need for safety and improvements along Lafayette Avenue . Although I keep busy with my Practice and other interests , I still enjoy cooking and traveling but being with my family , and especially our little granddaughter , is my most favorite of all the joys !

WHY YOU CHOSE TO BE A HEALTH FACILITY ADMINISTRATOR : I started in Long Term care in the dietary department . It wasn ’ t long before I received my CNA certification . I left long term care for a decade while I worked with youth and their families as a Deputy Administrator for a Christian youth ministry . I returned to long term care in 2006 as a social service director , and marketing and admissions director . In 2011 I received my Health Facility Administrator ’ s License and have been an Executive Director for eleven years and love every minute of what I do . My entire career has been serving others and that is my passion . There is no greater reward than to know every day I go to work and have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of residents , staff , families , and ultimately the community . I believe serving others is a great way to forget about what ’ s troubling you and puts the focus on being a game changer in someone else ’ s day . GREATEST PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT : I would have to say my greatest professional achievement is all of the relationships I have made throughout my career . I have been blessed with many mentors that have taken time to grow me as a leader and invest in growing my career . As a result
I was able to achieve my HFA , open two large skilled facilities from the ground up , serve as preceptor to some amazing young Administrator in training , and continue to grow in my role at HutsonWood Communities . There is a saying that , “ healthcare is small ” and it is so true . Figuring out who the great leaders are around you and then positioning yourself to learn from them , has taken me a long way and is hugely responsible for any success I have had as a leader and administrator . COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND PASSIONS : I have always had a passion for the Rotary club and am a member of the Brazil Rotary . I have been a Rotarian in the past and have enjoyed all of the community projects and fund raisers to assist those in need at the local level . I serve on the Clay County Salvation Army board and recently was elected to the Clay County Salvation Army Chair . I enjoy small town communities and the tightness they have among their communities . Serving at HutsonWood at Brazil and Towne Park Assisted Living is serving the community of Brazil and the surrounding area . Going to work every day with the attitude to make a difference has always returned blessings to me . CONTACT INFORMATION : Call 812-446-2636 or email Shannon .
