YEARS IN BUSINESS : 33 years
WHY YOU CHOSE TO BE A BENCH JEWELER : My love for jewelry started as a child , making beaded jewelry with my grandmother , who introduced me to metalwork and glass bead making , which led to my first job at a local hobby jewelry store . I graduated from Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI in 2014 . And in 2018 , I jumped at the opportunity to become a bench jeweler at Ross Elliott Jewelers . They have invested heavily into my education by sending me to New Approach School for Jewelers and classes at LaserStar . I am forever grateful to work for a company that encourages me to expand my knowledge of my craft .
GREATEST PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT : Some of the best moments in my career have been restoring family heirlooms . Because jewelry can be so sentimental , I find it very rewarding to breathe new life into broken and heavily worn pieces .
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND PASSIONS : I am also very passionate about oil painting . You can often find me in my home studio . Occasionally , you can catch one of my pieces at Arts Illiana . Other passions include yoga , hiking , and kayaking , but my biggest passion in life is being a mom to my 5-year-old son Liam .

Years in Business : Flower Shop - 101 but 4 years under new ownership
Why you chose to be a business owner : My decision to own a flower shop is a bit unorthodox as I have a background in retail and banking . I had not worked one day in a flower shop ! However , the desire to own my own business and put to use my experiences and knowledge was always present . When approached about the possibility of purchasing the flower shop , I had to step back and see if I could make a difference but yet continue the strong reputation of Poplar Flower Shop . With the need to eliminate the work travel that was keeping me away from my family and the desire to truly do my own thing , the flower shop started to make perfect sense !
In 2021 , Maggie & Moe ’ s opened our 2nd location with a little different spin - a coffee shop inside Regional Hospital . There you can purchase fresh flowers , gift items and , of course , coffee and food items .
Describe a major business or other challenge you ’ ve experienced and how you resolved it .

In a family business you have daily challenges that tend to come home with you . Maintaining balance between work and family has been a major challenge . Both are always present and blending them is a bit of an art . I fail at it often , however , I work with a forgiving crew .

Greatest Professional Achievement : My greatest professional achievement is taking a family owned business and making it belong to our family . Working alongside both of my daughters and my husband , when free from his teaching and coaching , is a dream come true !
Community Involvement and Passions : My greatest passion is my family - my husband , Greg , our late son , Patrick , and our daughters , Maggie and Maureen ( Moe ). Almost everything I do , I do for them . I am also very passionate about our not-for-profit organization , The PS We Love You Fund started in memory of our Patrick . The fund works with the Precision Genomics Department at Riley Hospital for Children and raises funds to provide testing for children suffering from aggressive cancer . In addition to the PS We Love You Fund , I currently serve on the board of The Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club and have assisted with the Chamber of Commerce annual dinner .
