What other women inspire you and why ?

I

was greatly inspired by a colleague and leader at Harrison College , Sarah Mahady . She is a woman who is like no other . No matter what she is doing , she goes above and beyond . She takes a sincere interest in all the people she comes across . If you know Sarah , then she has made a big impact on your life . Her most inspiring quality is how she loves people , just as Jesus loves us .
Describe a major business or other challenge you ’ ve experienced and how you resolved it .

When running a business / nonprofit , one of the biggest challenges I ’ ve encountered is building a strong team whose goals align with your mission . At times I ’ ve struggled with managing an unmotivated team or those who may have a different agenda . Staying the course and guiding our team to stay focused on our goals did help . We now have an amazing team of board members and volunteers that keep our mission as their focus .

Describe a failure , what lesson you learned and how it made you stronger .

I

lost a position that I loved with a work family that I cherished . I was devastated and embarrassed for the first couple of months . Fortunately , I was able to regroup and move forward in a different direction . I also learned that I was not defined by my title or income , but by the people who supported me during my struggle .
Katrina King , executive director of SHINE Foster Family Resources , wants to make sure foster families have the resources they need , like winter hats , gloves , scarves and more . Here , her children try on a few wintry accessories on Dec . 9 at the SHINE storefront on Johnson Drive .
It has been humbling to see just how generous our community is ! We aren ’ t a wealthy community , however we are a very giving one ! When a family has a need for something we don ’ t have available , nine out of 10 times our community steps up and provides it . I ’ m looking forward to seeing how SHINE can grow to meet more and more needs in our community !
What ’ s the source of your motivation ?

I

’ m motivated greatly by my faith and my children . Seeing how God does amazing things in the lives of families is super rewarding and being able to have a part in that is simply awesome !

What community causes interest you and why ?

I

’ m interested in just about anything to help children in the foster care community . About 16 years ago , I read an article in a magazine about all of the negative outcomes for children who age out of foster care that touched my heart . I spent time praying about it and felt God was calling me to be part of the solution to improve those outcomes .
What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership ?

The most significant barrier is gender inequality . Women are treated unfairly because we ’ re not viewed or treated as equals to men .

What advice would you give to young professional women ?

I

would encourage young professional women to focus on networking and community involvement early on . Then I would
