What does a chameleon eat?
Chameleons are insectivores, which at the same time means
that it is up to us to feed and handle the feeder insects
as well. These reptiles eat exclusively living insects, so if
the prey does not move, it will not raise their attention.
They do not feed on plants and fruits.
What kind of equipment is needed to start to keep
a chameleon?
It is worth taking the animal home when it reaches two
or three month of age. We are not supposed to carry
younger animals home despite the fact that smaller animals
might look cuter.
Chameleons, like most reptiles, need a terrarium of
proper size. A young individual requires a minimum of
30x30x50 cm terrarium, while an adult chameleon needs
a terrarium of 50x40x90 or 65x50x90 cm. It is significant
that there is a ventilation grill on the top and the side of
the terrarium as well, so that cross-ventilation is ensured.
