When considering the relationship
between sculpture and energy it may
be conventionally thought of in terms
of gravity and the weight and how
this force effects the placement of
sculpture. However, I feel that there
is an energy within object that we
perhaps do not always experience. On
a day-to-day basis many often engage
with materials and objects through
their use, functionally and value.
Yet if one disengages with this, only
if momentarily, by considering the
materiality of objects then one is able
to let the material speak, drawing out
an inherent energy. Within my artistic
practice I often employ this, suspending expectations materials by following their integral materiality. Energy is
also sensed through the markings of
touch. They are able to cross contexts
and time that are deeply personal and
cannot always be articulated in words.
