INTERNATIONAL DAY Innovation From a Stock Exchange D eutsche Börse AG (one of the largest stock exchange organizations worldwide) recently developed the Deutsche Börse Venture Network, bringing together new highgrowth companies and investors to improve funding opportunities for young growth companies. “Young up-andcoming growth companies make a very important contribution to creating highskilled jobs and securing the competitiveness of our economy in the future as well. However these companies are often unable to make optimal use of opportunities because of a lack of funding in the capital-intensive growth phase,” said Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. This week, Deutsche Börse Venture Network brings sixteen of its top German startups from the Biotech, Fintech, SaaS, Internet and eCommerce sectors to be part of a three day roadshow in the US: from New York to Boston and then west to Palo Alto. Opportunities for City Collaboration N ew York International has conducted a study about the potential of city collaboration in the area of entrepreneurship, innovation and startups. Using New York City as a comparison point, we looked at the strengths and difficulties of starting a business around the world. New York International has asked ten experts ten questions about issues and opportunities of city collaboration in the area of entrepreneurship. The result supported the assumption that bringing networks of people in different cities together will lead to faster and cheaper opportunities for business expansion. Therefore, providing international platforms of exchange is one of the most effective business development initiatives a city can undertake. Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and others have already taken the initiative and are collaborating with New York City. According to the experts interviewed, there is an opportunity for more. We are only at the beginning of a new wave of globalization with the rapid expansion of ideas. For International Day we have adapted the study and put it into the easy to read format of a SWOT analysis. For 2016 an update of the study is scheduled. Reach out to New York International if you are interested in participating or receiving the results. WEAKNESSES • International expansion has become significantly easier and cheaper.
