Navigating college life can be challenging, with academic pressures, social dynamics, and the need for balance often leading to high levels of stress among students. At Coastal Carolina University, these challenges are no different. In a poll I designed to capture student insight, I set out to understand how students on our campus manage stress and how effective these campus resources are perceived to be. Through this research, I am looking to uncover patterns in stress management and resource utilization, providing a clearer picture of how to improve the mental health resources at CCU. By analyzing students’ perspectives across different class years and genders, this data-driven story aims to shine a light on both the successes and the gaps within our campus mental health support and to start a conversation about ways to improve the well-being of the CCU community.
Coastal Carolina University offers a variety of mental health resources to support students’ well-being. The Counseling Services department provides free, confidential services, including individual counseling, group therapy, and workshops on stress management, coping skills, and mindfulness. For immediate assistance, students have access to a 24 / 7 helpline that connects them with trained professionals. Additionally, the campus promotes self-care and resilience through wellness events, online mental health screenings, and partnerships with organizations like the Student Health Services. These resources are part of CCU’ s commitment to fostering a supportive environment where students can seek help and develop healthy coping strategies throughout their college journey. I have listed some of those resources below for context and reference in future sections.
