On the evening of November 22nd, I dressed in green and black and went with my friends to see Wicked. In the interest of full disclosure, I should probably mention I’ ve never been a big Wicked fan, for reasons I’ ll get into in a bit; despite that, I thought the movie was pretty fantastic. It has great performances from the cast, beautiful costuming, and impressive effects, the soundtrack is good, and it’ s very well-paced( which, given it has the content of the first act of the stage musical, but the runtime of the whole thing, is very impressive). By all metrics, Wicked is a great movie, and if you’ re into musicals I absolutely recommend watching it.

I grew up not only watching the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie but also reading all fourteen of L. Frank Baum’ s Oz novels over and over on my ancient Kindle. I haven’ t read them in years, but I’ d guess that I still have far more familiarity with Oz lore than the average per-
