About Sara
Sara Graybeal was raised on a vegetable and cattle
farm in North Carolina, and spent most of her childhood
dodging farm chores in order to write stories. At
Macalester she studied Anthropology and Creative
Writing, and has spent the three years since graduating
teaching creative writing, spoken word, and improv
in Ecuador, North Carolina, and Philadelphia. These
days she lives in Philly, leading slam poetry workshops,
teaching at afterschool programs, and making time
to write. In February of 2013, she received the Bob
Costas Award for the Teaching of Writing, allowing her
to fund the publication of her students’ poetry.
