520 Corporation
Coming into St. Benedict’ s my freshman year I didn’ t think much about 520. Honestly, I thought it was an activity rather than a job. The school gains profit paying students to clean the school rather than real workers and that’ s how I thought the 520 workers were used. I don’ t know why or if I’ ll ever know why I decided to apply in my sophomore year. Till this day I have not regretted my decision to speak to Roberto for an application. When first working in Cawley Hall, I was discouraged. The two hours of loneliness with the expectation of getting everything done properly was a burden on my part. Eventually, I learned the way a 520 worker operates and I discovered qualities in the older workers that I wanted to project later on when I stood in their shoes. Qualities like having a great work ethic will allow a 520 worker to learn time management, financial management, and most importantly, initiative, because there is always a great outcome from doing more than you’ re asked even if no one acknowledges it. That’ s what makes 520 a great opportunity to allow those who have no working experience rise and learn qualities that will benefit them in the future. With that illuminating experience I hope to teach those new to 520 these important tools. Now as a 520 manager, I need to find a leader for the next school year, so that he can continue another cycle of brightening the path for new Benedict’ s guys.- Kevin Marques
