Benedict’ s Annual Dinner

It only seems fitting that Julie Cawley and Norma Lerner were both lauded at the same time with the prestigious Medal of St. Benedict’ s during the school’ s Annual Dinner. Their husbands, Charles Cawley’ 58 and the late Alfred Lerner, were also bestowed the school’ s highest honor during St. Benedict’ s Annual Dinner back in 2002. Charlie personally and MBNA America, the bank that he was CEO and President and Al was Chairman, have been among the biggest supporters of St. Benedict’ s Prep. Mrs. Cawley and Mrs. Lerner, who both worked hand-and-hand with their significant others in most of their endeavors, were honored with the Medal of St. Benedict’ s on May 9, 2013 along with Sister Teresa Shaw, S. S. J., on behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill, who have run St. Mary’ s Grammar School at Newark Abbey since 1968. The honorees were feted before a capacity crowd of nearly 500 – including numerous Alumni

– in St. Benedict’ s HAB Building. The Annual Dinner is the largest fundraiser of the entire school year and helps support St. Benedict’ s scholarship / financial aid commitments.“ It was a great opportunity to say thank you to women who have significantly affected the life choices for so many young people from this area,” said St. Benedict’ s Headmaster Fr. Edwin.“ The Dinner was a great opportunity to see alumni from all generations.”
