As the industry has grown, so has the creation of more non-technical roles in areas such as marketing, business development, sales and more.
If you’ re considering a career in digital tech, here’ s my advice to follow alongside your chosen educational pathway:
STAY CURIOUS.
Look at the problems technology is solving in the industries that interest you and immerse yourself in how and why it works.
KEEP LEARNING beyond the classroom. Seek out extra opportunities such as online courses, events, meetups and work experience.
PUT THE HARD WORK IN.
Commitment and consistency will set you apart.
LEAN INTO AI.
Get comfortable using AI tools, because they’ re fast becoming part of everyday work in every digital role.
BUILD A PORTFOLIO.
Create your own projects to showcase your skills. They give employers real evidence of what you can do. That can be pivotal when it’ s difficult to get work experience.
It’ s also worth noting that an ongoing digitisation of traditional industries is unlocking digital tech jobs across a wider range of sectors.
Tech it out – Dan Watson.
