Over the past 30 years , Wilton Engineering has committed to developing the next generation of skilled professionals through innovative training initiatives to ensure the firm ’ s high standards and the expectations of its customers are constantly met .
With a strong track record of apprenticeship success , the firm – based in Port Clarence , alongside the Transporter Bridge — is shaping the workforce of tomorrow .
Launch of the Wilton Training Academy Wilton Engineering ’ s CEO Bill Scott continually states that apprentices are “ the lifeblood ” of the company .
Wilton Engineering ’ s customers include British defence giant BAE Systems , who are building the next generation of submarines at their Barrow-in-Furness base .
And in 2022 , the Tees firm proudly launched its in-house Wilton Training Academy , which has since employed apprentices specialising in fabrication and welding .
These apprentices actively pursue Level 3 qualifications in Plate Welding and Metal Fabrication , with some advancing to Higher National Certificates ( HNCs ).
To support these programmes , Wilton Engineering has built strong partnerships with several leading educational institutions , including :

Expanding opportunities The firm ’ s apprenticeship opportunities extend beyond the construction and fabrication teams . In collaboration with Teesside University , Wilton Engineering also runs a degree apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineering .
This six-year programme offers students the opportunity to earn an accredited Mechanical
Engineering ( BEng ) degree . Each week , participants gain four days of hands-on experience at the firm ’ s 112-acre facility in Port Clarence , with one day per week dedicated to academic study at the university .
A pathway to a lifelong career Completing an apprenticeship at Wilton Engineering is just the beginning of a promising career .
