Meet the Bollywood star who’ll
never lose touch with her
Teesside roots.

Welcome to the Spring 2019 issue of Tees Life –
Teesside’s lifestyle magazine.
t’s what used to be known as Girl Power.
And two of Teesside’s very own female
luminaries feature strongly in the winter/
spring issue of Tees Life.
For many readers, Preeti Desai and
Adele Parks aren’t necessarily household
names on Teesside. Both can certainly walk
around their Middlesbrough and Eaglescliffe
hometowns without risk of being mobbed
by over-enthusiastic autograph hunters and
selfie searchers.
And yet both have achieved fame in their
own unique areas of achievement. Cover
star Preeti was the first ever Miss United
Kingdom from an Indian background and
has gone on to achieve modelling success in
Bombay before tripping the light fantastic in
both Bollywood and Hollywood.
Meanwhile, Adele – the subject of our
Lifestyle Q&A on our centre page – is
currently enjoying a jaw-dropping 18-strong
run of bestselling books – though, like Preeti,
she craves a breakthrough in the USA as her
ambition shows no sign of waning.
WELLINGTON WOW
Last year my Tees Life co-editor Martin
Walker and I organised the inaugural Tees
Businesswomen Awards, an event that
turned the spotlight on just a few of the
many hugely successful females foraging a
path in the world of business from a Teesside
base. But Preeti and Adele are just two
examples of so many of our females enjoying
wider success well beyond the Tees region.
A date for your diary: the second annual
Tees Businesswomen Awards takes place on
the evening of Thursday, October 24. After
275 attended our sell-out event at Wynyard
Hall in 2018, we’ve expanded into the larger
Grand Marquee for our 2019 event.
As with Tees Life’s sister magazine, Tees
Business, we’re proud to be Talking up
Teesside and the successful businesses and
people within it (regardless of their sex).
And we’re proud to be the region’s lifestyle
magazine, shouting about what a fantastic
place Teesside is.
Enjoy the read.
