Vitality celebrates
10-year milestone
In 2008, Vitality Dental
Practice opened its doors
– and patients’ mouths –
for the first time. Tees Life
goes back to their roots…
I
t’s now ten years since Ian and Jayne
Gordon got their teeth into setting up
their own practice with the opening of
Vitality Dental Practice in Stokesley.
The past decade has seen them establish
a thriving practice, offering a wide range of
general dentistry along with more advanced
treatments on referral.
Vitality has always been a private practice
operating outside the NHS, with the ethos
of providing the treatment patients need at a
price they can afford.
The practice is proof that private dentistry
doesn’t have to be prohibitively expensive,
with Vitality offering a range of membership
plans – and the most popular one is priced
only £13 per month.
Whilst developing Vitality, Ian has also
worked with his other partners to establish
Alpha Dental Group with its substantial
commitment to NHS dentistry across the
North-East. Many patients from Alpha
are referred to Vitality for more advanced
treatments, such as implants.
Thanks to his managerial role in Alpha, Ian
knows how challenging it can be to operate
within the constraints of the NHS and enjoys
the clinical freedom afforded by working
entirely within the private sector.
During the last decade Jayne has focused
entirely on facial aesthetics, establishing
Vitality Face as a business within the practice,
offering wrinkle relaxants, fillers and
advanced facial treatments.
Over the years, the team has expanded to
now boast nine dentists, a dental therapist
and two hygienist, with three well equipped,
air-conditioned treatment rooms open five
days a week.
Guy Wells, who is also a partner in Alpha
Dental Group, provides private general and
cosmetic dentistry via Vitality, offering access

and private routes.
Over the past three years Claire Abbas has
expanded her clinical interests in the field
of periodontal treatment, working alongside
Mike Barnett, a visiting dentist with special
interest in periodontology. Vitality recently
invested in the latest equipment for pain-free
removal of deposits and staining, using a
technique known as guided biofilm therapy.
Set to join the team in November is Jane
Akhtar, who will bring with her a wealth
of cosmetic experience (including using
Invisalign® clear braces) following her time
working at Cleveland Cosmetic & Dental
Implant Clinic in Stockton.
Another recent addition is Mike Turner,
who is accepting referrals for more difficult
and challenging endodontic treatments
– more commonly known as root fillings
– achieving the best possible outcomes by
using Vitality’s microscope and state-of-the-
art materials.
Vitality’s implant team, led by highly
respected and experienced David Veige
and Haytham Abbas, use the latest digital
techniques combining images obtained from
the in-house CT scanner with 3D printing
where needed. They always stay abreast of
state-of-the-art techniques, with Vitality
investing in technology to help with healing
and improved patient comfort during
implant treatments and other surgeries.

a free initial consultation to assess a patient’s
suitability for treatment before they commit
financially to a thorough exam and treatment
plan.
“Our aim is to find solutions and to cater
for all our patients’ needs,” says Ian. “This has
involved bringing to the team dentists with a
special interest in their respective fields.”
In charge of a practice that recently
became charity patrons of Teesside
Philanthropic Foundation, Ian says: “Vitality
is more than just another dental practice
– our patients always comment on our
exceptionally friendly team.
“New patients are always welcome to join
the practice as members of our monthly
payment plan, while we’re also happy to see
patients who prefer to pay for treatment
when they attend.
“We also see patients for one-off treatment
such as emergency pain relief or to cater
for a specific treatment, be that cosmetic,
orthodontic or to improve function, perhaps
with an implant or implant retained denture.”
