WELCOME Welcome CON TEN TS 10 PSYCHE-OTHERAPY Cover feature: On the couch with Teesside fashionista Steve Cochrane. 17 Tees Life co-editors Dave Allan (left) and Martin Walker. Welcome to the Autumn 2018 issue of Tees Life – Teesside’s lifestyle magazine. D on’t mention the F-word. No, this isn’t my attempt to clean up the language of our readers. It’s a reference to the views of our cover feature star Steve Cochrane, the man behind iconic Teesside clothing store, Psyche. Apparently Steve doesn’t like to refer to another F-word many would most associate him with – fashion. But, as you’ll see from our cover headline, we’ve already failed him! The truth is that this issue of Tees Life is flipping full of F-words. It’s hard to avoid them. Steve explains why he’s not a fan of fashion – or, at least, the word – in a fascinating four-page feature (see what we mean?) starting on page 10. Our lifestyle feature with Teessider Diane Youdale – once a big name on Saturday TV under the guise of Jet in The Gladiators – is full of another great F-word…fun. And we’re also full of food too – from HOUSE ABOUT THIS? Lyndsey McGeary’s review of The Curing House to a chef ’s recipe feature from the King’s Arms in Great Stainton, and from Norton’s Café Lilli being named in The Good Food Guide to Acklam Hall tickling out tastebuds for the festive season. And there’s yet another F-word. The festive season will soon be upon us, so Norton-based Amanda Bell – makeup artist to the stars – provides her glamour tips for the Christmas party season, while our new columnist Sophia Gowland guides the girls on what to wear – but, like Steve, prefers the phrase style more than female fashion. To finish with this F-ing foreword, don’t miss our always funny writer Harry Pearson’s Big Tees column, as he recalls some of the fastest growing sports of years gone by. Fantastic. There’s only one F in Tees Life! Dave Allan The Curing House is hot property in our latest food review. 22 FESTIVE GLAMOUR Former BAFTA’s makeup artist Amanda Bell with her tips for the perfect look this Christmas. 26 TEES LIFESTYLE She used to be known as Jet on TV’s Gladiators, so we find out what makes Teessider Diane Youdale fly. 34 PAGE TURNER Take a peak through the keyhole of Elton Manor.
