The application of a tooth-coloured resin material using adhesives to bond to your tooth. This cosmetic technique can give you the appearance of a straighter, whiter smile and can be used as a solution to repair chips or cracks, close gaps between your teeth and build up worn-down edges of teeth. What are the differences between composite bonding and veneers? With ceramic veneers, in the majority cases you have to prepare the tooth surface to accommodate them. They are constructed by dental technicians in a laboratory, and as a result they require multiple visits and this is reflected in the cost. They last longer than composite bonding, however they require tooth tissue removal so can be more destructive of healthy teeth. Who is suitable for composite bonding? It’s a cosmetic solution for people who have healthy teeth and are requiring small changes to be made. This not a suitable technique for somebody who has complicated crowding of teeth, or extensive tooth fractures or gaps, in which case alternative treatment may be needed. Composite bonding can be done with no injections or drilling. How long does composite bonding last? If you follow the aftercare advice correctly, composite bonding will generally need replacing every three-to- five years. What happens in your consultation and treatment appointments? A trained cosmetic dentist will assess your suitability and all options will be discussed, along with the cost and any oral health issues which might need to be dealt with prior to having treatment. We then take photos of your teeth and often recommend whitening beforehand to get the desired shade. Queensway Dental offers a free, no obligation consultation for new patients.
