Find out more and register at ceosleepoutuk.com/Middlesbrough Tees firms join forces on Spanish project for Catholic church A n historic Catholic college in the middle of Spain that trains English-speaking men for the priesthood has turned to four Teesside businesses to produce its new high-quality website and a series of short films. The Royal English College of St Alban’s in the Spanish city of Valladolid has a rich history dating back to 1589 – times of the Spanish Armada and Gunpower Plot – when Catholicism was banned in England, leading to the church accepting an offer from the Catholic King of Spain to set up a training college in the city. The college’s rector, Canon Paul Farrer, spent 20 years as a Middlesbrough priest before moving back to Valladolid – having studied there for six years in his younger days – two years ago. He turned to his friends, former Middlesbrough Football Club PR colleagues Michael McGeary and Dave Allan, to pull together a wide-ranging project fitting for a college that remains hugely important to the Catholic church. Michael, who runs his own ghostwriting and PR business, and Tees Life co-editor Dave, who owns DNA PR & Publicity, talked to several Teesside businesses before appointing Yarm-based Happy Leaves to create the college’s new website, with Middlesbrough’s Ithica Films creating videos to feature on the site. Canon Paul said: “My years on Teesside meant that I have good friends there who are at the top of their game. What we have produced is absolutely fantastic.” an impressive new function room will be complete by the autumn and the club is awaiting planning permission to build facilities that would see them be the first to bring the fast-growing sport of padel tennis to the North-East. JOIN US FOR NEXT CEO SLEEPOUT Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen served up a winner when he marked the start of the British Open at Wimbledon by unveiling the first phase of a £200,000 investment in Tennis World Middlesbrough. The investment in new indoor and outdoor courts together with LED lighting is the first phase of what will comprise the biggest project since Teesside’s biggest independent tennis club opened in 1986. While the new courts are now in use, 50 Tees Life’s sister publication Tees Business is calling Teesside business owners, directors and executives to help in the fight against local poverty and homelessness. Two years ago Tees Business organised a hugely successful event for Middlesbrough- Jacksons Law Firm recently teamed up with Connect Property North East to help owners of Smoggie Doggie Day Care make their dream a reality by opening their new centre in Middlesbrough. Smoggie Doggie Day Care offers a fully licenced day care centre with facilities and services that include a dog grooming salon, dog training classes to encourage good behaviour, delivery and collection and a DIY dog wash. The centre also boasts a small shop selling pet supplies and food. The dogs are encouraged to have fun during their time spent at the centre in a large area with different rooms hosting smaller groups of similar dogs of size and personality, where they also host a wide range of activities. WYNYARD PARK RETAIL UNITS GRANTED PLANNING PERMISSION Up to 40 full and part-time jobs could be created following the granting of full planning permission for four new retail units at Wynyard Business Park. The new shops, restaurants or cafes, at the junction of the A19 with the A689, will serve more than 2,000 office workers at Wynyard Business Park, 1,500 household
