TEESSIDE HIGH SCHOOL
CONTINUES TO INSPIRE 120 YEARS ON
T
eesside High School is approaching
a major milestone in its history.
The School, which occupies an
impressive setting on the banks of the
River Tees in Eaglescliffe, will celebrate the
120th anniversary of its Former Students’
Association in 2019, an occasion which will
bring together staff, pupils and families, both
past and present.
The School traces its roots back to Queen
Victoria High School and The Cleveland
School, the latter housed in a rambling
Victorian mansion on Teesside High’s
current grounds. The historic buildings were
enjoyed by generations of schoolchildren
before their demolition in 1970, when
Teesside High School began its life.
The School has been co-educational since
2005 and offers a seamless education for boys
and girls aged three-to18.
The School is continuing to thrive in a
crowded marketplace. Headteacher Kirsty
Mackenzie is driving forward the next phase
in its journey. “Our School is renowned
for its warm, family-friendly environment,
where every child is known, recognised and
important,” she says.
“It is my responsibility to
ensure this ethos is unchanged
and that we deliver an excellent
education which is special and
unique to each individual.”
The School’s examination
results are consistently
outstanding and place it in the
top ten of best performing independent
Schools in the North-East region – the
highest of any non-selective School (The
Sunday Times, 2017).
“We work with children of all abilities
and, through a combination of small classes,
personalised learning, excellent teaching and
wrap-around support, they achieve great
things,” continues Kirsty.
“We are a small community, but our
students share immense ambition and an
unwavering will to succeed – whether that be
in the classroom, on the stage, on the sports
field or in their work within the community.
“We are proud of our rich history; our
alumni community provides fantastic
inspiration to our current pupils. We are
most looking forward to gathering as a
School community in 2019 to celebrate a
huge chapter in our history.”
