Brothers Anthony and Andrew Hynes with Paul Wood, their business partner at The Artizan. The Artizan – the new name A long-awaited gin and cocktail bar in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, has opened its doors for the first time. Amid a stunningly-designed interior, The Artizan is now taking table bookings at the new venue on Roman Road, opposite the Linthorpe pub. Developed by master craftsmen, their range of barrel-aged cocktails comes with such locally-themed names as Captain Cook, The Transporter, Cleveland Hills, Bottle of Notes, Tijuana of Teesside, Flare Stack and Chemical Circus. And, at £100, there’s even Teesside’s most expensive cocktail, the Welder’s Margarita, a mouth-watering mix of tequila, lime, agave and champagne – served in an eye-catching in cocktails sharing vessel containing enough for up to six individual glasses, it comes with four glasses of champagne. Along with a range of gins and cocktails, drinkers can enjoy a selection spirits, wines and champagnes, beers and ciders. The Artizan is the creation of brothers Anthony and Andrew Hynes together with business partner Paul Wood, who revealed that there are plans for more Artizan bars to be launched over the next two or three years. From the shell of a well-known former carpet store, the trio designed and created the bar’s quirky interior themselves. Cocktail and gin fans can enjoy the reclaimed brick interior and a bar imaginatively fashioned from scaffolding boards, while eye-catching features include filament lighting and an exposed steel beam stamped with a name synonymous with Teesside’s industrial heritage, Dorman Long & Co. “We’re proud to have built it ourselves but we’ve invested substantial funds into The Artizan too,” said Paul. “We wanted to create a warm atmosphere with real ambience, and I think we’ve achieved that. “We’re confident there’s nothing like it in the area, and it’s already clear people want to be part of it. It’s somewhere people will want to sit and enjoy a few drinks”. Bookings for the The Artizan can be made via their website www.theartizan.com, their Facebook page or by calling 01642 827698. 33
