HAIR Let your hair down! Our hair expert Janice Auton gets us into the Christmas spirit with her top tips on achieving fabulous festive styles and keeping your crowning glory looking and feeling fantastic this winter... Hi Janice, how can I style my mid-length hair for a Christmas ball? For an easy, glam look, simply scoop your clean hair up softly into a high ponytail and add this fabulous hair bun made of human hair (main picture) that can be washed, styled, coloured and used just like your own hair in a variety of styles. Available at Additional Lengths, Stockton, and Poppys Hairdressing. Or, if you have time, book in with your favourite stylist, ask them for some simple waves but start with bigger and wavier hair as it will definitely drop in the winter mists. It’s a good idea to invest in a moisture protecting hairspray too. At Poppys, we use Eufora Tame. The winter weather makes my hair dry and brittle. How can I put the moisture back in and get it shiny again? Part of the blame is the summer months and the damage those UV rays did, so it’s important to protect and nourish your hair all year round. You may think it is protein your hair needs, but that really is just for highly damaged, over coloured, mostly blonde hair. Invest in a hydrating, nourish- packed shampoo and separate conditioner and have a weekly hair mask. At Poppys, we recommend Urgent Repair from the Eufora Nourish range. I’m attending a grand winter wedding and want to add a fascinator or something similar. What do you recommend? There are loads of gorgeous hat designs made from luxurious felts in a broad range of colours, from the understated blacks, navies and greys to vibrant rich Christmassy reds and plums. Choose from chic pillboxes adorned with pheasant feathers to petite dishes, they are all perfect for a special winter wedding. Remember your hat becomes your hair so keep it simple. You could also get creative with pearl and crystal hair slides (pictured). I’m going skiing over Christmas. What should I be doing to protect my hair? If you’ve got long hair and you’ve been skiing before, you’ll remember the tangles and frizz when you remove your helmet after a day on the slopes. You’ll also know about ‘helmet hair‘– squashed flat, even if it is protected from the elements. Try tying your hair in a small bun at the nape of your neck and secure it with an invisible hair net for extra support. When the time comes for lunch or après ski, undo the bun and your glorious hair will be revealed. If it’s longer, try a gentle plait down to the side and when released your hair will resemble beach waves. Short hair is going to be flat so use your hands, ruffle like crazy, add some dry wax and texturise away. I really fancy a change of colour for the winter. My hair is quite light blonde (coloured!). I have fair skin and green eyes. What would suit me? Simply add an abundance of golden and copper and brown tones through your hair to change with the seasons. Get creative with pearl and crystal hair slides What are the ‘in’ styles going to be in 2020? I really fancy a change 1960s-influenced baby bangs and sweeping fringes and teased crowns, collar length hair, the messier the better with half up-dos. Forget the top knot - it’s a bouncy ponytail for 2020. Poppys Stockton, 7-8 Silver Court, Stockton TS18 1SL. Tel: 01642 608539 / 01642 899099 Poppys Hartlepool, 20 Victoria Road, Hartlepool TS26 8DD.
