The proposals would see the creation of a new three-lane lifting bridge at Middlehaven Dock, with associated highway and infrastructure improvements. The £9m scheme represents the next major phase in the regeneration of Middlehaven, and will provide vital access to the site to the north of the Riverside Stadium. The bridge will create a new road route via Shepherdson Way, taking motorists, cyclists and pedestrians from the A66 across the dock and past Anish Kapoor’s monumental Temenos sculpture. The TV gantry is now situated in the Riverside’s East Stand. T he Riverside Stadium underwent a £6 million facelift during the summer as Middlesbrough FC prepared for the return of Premier League football. The work included the creation of new media and broadcast facilities, renovation of the tunnel and dressing room area, a newlook reception and refurbished hospitality facilities. Newly promoted clubs have to meet new criteria upon promotion to the Premier League, so new dug-outs have been installed along with a new players’ entrance and a new-look West Stand reception. Two new TV studios have been installed on either side of the Riverside’s big screen, while the outside broadcast compound, used by matchday TV broadcasters, has been moved to a new location in the South East Corner of the stadium. The TV gantry has also been moved from the West Stand to the East Stand, with the main camera positions now pointing towards the main stand. See pages 6 and 38 for more details about the work.
