ARE YOU PROTECTED AGAINST CYBER-CRIME?
According to the Office for National Statistics( ONS), there were 5.6m fraud and computer misuse crimes reported from June 2015 to June 2016, with 3.8m instances of cyber-crime, which included 1,340,000 caused by computer viruses and 681,000 from hackers.
Tesco Bank has also been the victim of cyber-crime and, as a result, suffered severe disruptions when 40,000 customer accounts were targeted and money was taken from 20,000 of those accounts.
This resulted in the firm having to halt online payments for current account members.
Sadly, in this day and age, businesses are being hampered by cases of cybercrime, despite having robust security infrastructures in place, so it is vitally important that the proper precautions are in place.
The recent ONS figures are very disturbing and highlight the issues that businesses face each and every day, and the recent case involving Tesco Bank demonstrates how the disruptions following an attack can affect a company and its customers.
At Henderson Insurance Brokers, we regularly host briefings and seminars on various topics which provide business owners and senior members of staff with up-to-date industry knowledge about how to guard against risks and protect their assets.
These seminars have welcomed people from a range of industries who have been given an insight into a number of topics that are key to operating a business effectively and safely. Cyber-crime can cause major disruptions to businesses and staff members, so it is important that businesses are aware of the dangers.
Several insurers we work with are now offering cyber insurance cover options, which are often excluded from standard insurance policies, and this has been designed to support businesses from such attacks given the devastating affects these crimes can have on business activity and data protection.

The sky’ s the limit for Chris

Teesside businessman Chris Petty is walking on air after the airshow he helped organise was nominated for a major award.

Petty, managing director of Stockton-based IT experts Cornerstone Business Solutions, leads the team behind the Skylive airshow, who have been nominated for Performance of the Year in the Living North Awards.
Teesside’ s first airshow for 26 years attracted a crowd of around 18,000 in 2016- and Petty is already reaching for the sky for the follow-up show by aiming for even higher numbers.
Skylive Events hope to make the 2017 show – to be held on Saturday, May 27 at Durham Tees Valley Airport –“ bigger and better”.

Dozens of Tees businesses joined forces to raise £ 44,000 at the area’ s biggest annual charity dinner – and help Teesside Philanthropic Foundation reach a £ 2m fundraising milestone.

Held in the Grand Marquee at Wynyard Hall, the foundation’ s annual dinner attracted a record attendance of 460.
And the evening’ s fundraising success means the charity and its supporters have now raised £ 2 million in cash and pledges since its launch just five-and-a-half years ago.
The fundraiser featured performances by Tees-based male voice choir Infant Hercules, 15-year-old Guisborough soprano Charlotte Potter and local band Storm.
Those also in attendance were Olympic long jumper Chris Tomlinson, World and European sprint champion Richard Kilty, Paralympic footballer Matt Crossen and former Boro star Bernie Slaven.

Last year’ s Skylive airshow at Durham Tees Valley Airport has been nominated for an award.
Chris has approached the RAF about a return for the Red Arrows after they were a huge hit with visitors at the first show, but he is also in talks to bring a Typhoon aircraft, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with Spitfire, Hurracane and Lancaster, plus a Hawk, a Hercules, a Chinook and an Apache helicopter gun ship.
Ticket prices will be unchanged for 2017, with general admission £ 15 and a family ticket- two adults, three children- £ 35. There’ s a 10 % discount if booked in 2016. A separate car park charge will again apply.
